Reputation

  • Respect of the bar and/or the business community for competence and integrity
  • Appropriate academic and professional or business credentials
  • Scholarship and continuing education

Experience and Competence

  • Extensive experience in business or professional practice involving complex legal or business matters
  • Extensive experience in dispute resolution

Neutrality

  • Impartiality and objectivity
  • Freedom from national or cultural prejudice
  • Independence and open-mindedness

Judicial Capacity

  • Dispute management skills
  • Judicial temperament: impartiality, patience, courtesy
  • Talent for adjudication, negotiation, and conciliation

Commitment and Availability

  • Availability and willingness to serve in accordance with the needs of the parties
  • Ability to devote time and effort to major disputes
